Thunder,

The Perseids Meteor Shower is active until August 24th. Why don't you get out during the peak and decide from there? I think this shower will have life on the 15th, but it is truly hard to give you a prediction as you already know. If you have some free time it sounds like a relaxing drive and mini vacation. Just remember to view in the morning hours before dawn. Maybe 10 to 15 meteors per hour, but this is a complete guess.

I am thinking about driving out to Joshua Tree on Saturday the 15th to see what I can get from the shower. Do you think its worth the 2.5 hour trip from San Diego? I know you cant predict what will happen, but how active do showers usually remain a few days after the peak?

Thanks!

Rohit,

Big city lights severely hurt meteor shower viewing. You probably have to go into the suburbs to see more. Try again, I can't guarantee anything.

Keep your head up!

Hi,

I am in Chicago and yesterday (11 Aug), I went on the darkest part of the city and observed NE or Eastern sky (from 12 to 2 AM). The sky was as clear as it could get, but could not see any meteor at all.. leave alone any shower.

I wonder, how can I see from Chicago sky.

Thanks,
Rohit

To All Meteor Gazers,

I still can't pronounce the name "Perseids" correctly. I have some sort of mental block. That's why I made this post. I'm sure it's easy for you, but somehow hard for me!

Keep your head up, the Purr See Idds are coming. (Ah Sounds Nice!)

Bev,

It is possible. Try to remember what direction it went across the sky in and then trace the path to its radiant. If the radiant appears to come from the constellation Perseus then we may surmise it was a Perseid Meteor or Fireball!
