Before a Perseids Meteor enters the Earth’s atmosphere it is called a meteoroid. These meteoroids enter our atmosphere at ridiculously fast speeds as high as 133,000 mile per hour.

Hello Meteor Gazers,
They’re really fast upon entry but slow down considerably because of ram pressure and wind resistance. Ram pressure is what heats the meteoroids and makes them glow. Check out our glossary on the upper right hand corner there are more cool meteor facts there.
