δ-Aquarids Meteor Shower Peaks July 28

The South. δ-Aquarids Meteor Shower can produce up to 20 meteors per hour on its peak date of July 28, 2009. This means that you should be out before dawn on Tuesday morning. There are a lot of people who believe that meteor showers are night time events and their thinking is not all wrong. Meteor showers do occur at night when it is dark outside, however they are best seen in the mornings. This shower probably won’t produce massive results, but it is worth viewing. Bookmark the site and get ready for the Perseids Meteor Shower of August!

Thanks for your informative site. My husband saw a streaking red fireball on Friday night, July 24th, 2009 at 11:30 p.m.as he was heading for bed. He called me to the window and by then it was a “slowly” floating red ball of fire heading toward earth. It didn’t seem to flash quickly like a falling star, but rather come down slower till out of sight which of course, only took about 10 seconds.
We are in Post Falls, Idaho near the Montana border and we we’re looking toward the southeast, toward Montana. It seemed to be pretty close but I know that can be deceiving.
It was exciting to see and we wish we would have had our camera handy, but didn’t.
Thanks for the tip, we’ll be out there tomorrow morning to see if we get another show!

I agree sometimes they really do seem close. They are usually about 60 miles high in the atmosphere and believe it or not, most are no larger than a pebble or a tennis ball.
