We were driving home from Las Vegas to Twin Falls Idaho on 11/06/2008 when we saw a meteor(?) shoot across the sky for a very long distance then burst almost like a firework. Is this related to the Taurids meteor shower ? It was quite spectacular.
Thanks Brent

Brent,
What an awesome sight! You most likely witnessed one of the Taurids Fireballs. When a fireball explodes at the end, it is known as a bolide. Bolide is derived from the greek term bolis or to flash. I am not sure what path it took across the sky to definitely know it was a Taurid Fireball, but if you can remember the path and trace backward to the radiant, it should be somewhere near the constellation of Taurus. (Taurus is above the Bow of Orion)
Consider yourself lucky, it has been total overcast in Mystic, CT (Where I am) I have seen none!
Thank you for your comment and keep your head up!

So this is way after the fact, but I also think I saw a Taurid Fireball like Brent described from San Luis Obispo, CA. It was bright orange and had a small trail, and was slowly moving across the sky. After a few seconds it seemed to “burst” and turned into a white speck that I could still see making its way through the sky. Truly amazing!! I have NEVER seen anything like it. Glad someone else was wondering what it was…
